Chiclana de la Frontera is a lively bustling ancient town with a beautiful park, a wide range of shops and all the usual town amenities including an historic theatre, art gallery and library. Chiclana is a traditionally Spanish, busy working town which retains an authentic Andalucian atmosphere. It is close to several kilometres of golden sandy beaches and is approximately 40 minutes' drive from Jerez airport. Chiclana is gradually expanding its infrastructure to become an even more desirable destination for holidays.

Our properties near Chiclana are surrounded by rolling countryside, yet conveniently located within a few minutes' drive of the town. The local golf courses of San Andres (9 holes), Novo Sancti Petri (18 & 9 holes) and Monte Medio (18 holes) are all within easy reach by car.

Novo Sancti Petri is a prestigious urbanisation with a wide selection of properties ranging from mini developments of small houses set within private grounds, with communal swimming pools and sports facilities to larger luxury villas lining the golf courses. The urbanisation offers extensive facilities for horse riding, tennis, golf practice ranges and two 18-hole championship golf courses.

Roche is a lovely thriving village about fifteen minutes away from Chiclana, an exclusive estate offering luxurious homes by beautiful quiet sandy beaches.

Nova Sancti Petri is a very desirable area on the coast offering a number of bars, restaurants and entertainment during the summer season.

Chiclana - beaches:

From our properties in Chiclana you can also enjoy the fabulous beaches at La Barrossa, Roche and Sancti Petri to name but a few.

La Barrossa is the coastal area of Chiclana, located approx 6km from the centre and is the perfect location for a relaxing beach holiday with a vast array of water sports. La Barossa is a popular tourist attraction during the summer season and here you will find restuarants, bars, beach shops and kiosks. During the night the area comes alive with street entertainers and small markets that offer a selection of Moroccan goods.

Only a ten-minute journey from Chiclana is the beautiful beach at Sancti Petri. It has a busy marina and numerous water sports in the harbour including jet skiing, canoeing, deep sea diving and sea fishing trips.

Chiclana - Activities:

Apart from splendid beaches and golf courses, Chiclana also offers a host of tennis schools, a riding centre, indoor swimming pools, a municipal cycle track, football pitch and a yacht club.

Chiclana - Shopping:

Chiclana has a large indoor market where local fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, meat, snails, shrimps, bread and cakes are all on sale from Monday to Saturday. There is another market every Tuesday morning selling clothes, local spices, leather goods (including soft leather hand-made shoes) and typically Spanish food including olives. The Marin doll factory and museum are located in Chiclana. The dolls are famous all over Spain and throughout the world for their craftsmanship and history.

Chiclana - Gastronomy:

Chiclana has strong associations with wine and wine culture. It was once, one of the most important wine producing regions in Spain. Although wine production has decreased considerably, you can still find excellent quality wines here. The 'Chiclaneros' are very proud of their wine. The most famous wines are the fine whites and the Muscadets. Also, the sherry wine dry, fragrant and muscatel is well worth a try.

Chiclanas vineyards have become popular tourist attractions. Wine lovers come from all over to sample the product and learn about the history. The wine making process is very traditional and the vineyards have used the same wine-making methods for centuries.

The town has many bars and restaurants and in Chiclana you will find typical Spanish local bodejas (wine shops) where you can sample the local wines, where a litre of good wine will typically cost around 30p! (half a Euro).

There are several cake and coffee shops in the town where you can just sit and watch the world go by while enjoying the gorgeous pastries, or take a leisurely merienda (high tea) while contemplating your next activity.

In Chiclana you will find several Spanish restaurants serving authentic Spanish food, including the local delicacy 'jamon' and traditional seafood dishes. There are also international restaurants offering Mexican, Chinese, English and Italian food.

Chiclana - History and Nature:

Near to Ciiclana are the Sancti Petri Castle - an 18th century fortress built around a 16th century tower, and several churches which are home to some historically important works of art. In the town of Chiclana you will also find a theatre and an exhibition hall.

At Chiclana you are never far from one of the area's National Parks where pine trees flourish and wildlife thrives. Unlike other parts of Spain, Chiclana has remained unspoilt by widespread tourism and has retained much of its traditional Spanish character and culture.
