La Pinera, Asturias & Cantabria - Overview:
A nature lover's paradise with an abundance of mountain countryside ideal for walking, climbing, cycling and canoeing on the River Sella. La Pinera is a traditional farming village within easy access of Ribadesella and Lieres, with good access to the main A8 and A64 motorways. The village is one of the prettiest in Asturias and has won awards for its appeal. It is conveniently located 7km from Infiesto (the capital of the district of Pilona) and 10km away from Arriondas, famous for its International Canoe Descent Festival held on the River Sella every year (first Saturday in August).
La Pinera village is small, with some old houses built in a traditional rural style with thick stone walls, solid wooden beams and wooden galleries. Faithful to its traditional farming origins, there are some pretty horreos (Asturian granaries) in the village. There is a stone chapel, used only on special occasions, and a local bar which sells some groceries. A larger selection of amenities are available in nearby Infiesto or Arriondas.

A few lanes cross the village, leading to the nearby river, pastures and rural tracks to the woods and mountains, which are a haven for walkers.
Cangas de Onis, the original capital of Asturias, is only 20 minutes drive away. It is the gateway to the magnificent Picos de Europa mountain range and Covadonga with endless opportunities for walking, climbing and cycling.
La Pinera, Asturias & Cantabria - Beaches, swimming, River Sella:
There are several beaches in the area, the nearest one (Santa Marina) is only 30 minutes drive from La Pinera in the lovely resort of Ribadesella, but there are several other beautiful beaches nearby, as the coastline area is spectacular. Across the Sueve Mountains, a viist to the beach of La Isla, is a must.
There is an open-air public swimming-pool in Infiesto and a heated covered one in Arriondas. Arriondas offer a host of river activities, especially the canoe descent.

The nearest restaurants are in Sevares 1.5km. Casa Calvo, (La Pergola) offers quite reasonably priced menus of the day and a la carte specialities. The Restaurant La Roca on the outskirts of Sevares, towards Arriondas, has a parrilla (open-fire barbecue) from midday onwards and is very popular with the locals.
La Pinera, Asturias & Cantabria - Fiestas:
Local fiestas are good fun, especially for children when there is a fun fair; they take place most weekends during July and August in surrounding villages. The Festivities of San Pedro (29th June) last a few days in nearby Sevares.
