Nueva, Asturias & Cantabria - Overview:

Nueva is surrounded by beautiful countryside, green pastures with small hills and a few houses in the narrow lanes.

Nueva, Asturias & Cantabria- Geography:

Situated between the main road N634 and the coast, Nueva and Villanueva are rural communities that produces milk and cheese, so it is quite usual to see cows herded along the lanes, with bells round their necks. It is very pleasant to walk along the lanes, although care must be taken since there are no pavements.

Nueva, Asturias & Cantabria- Beaches:

The beach is 2km away, slightly downhill from the village. It is a sheltered beach in a horse-shoe shaped bay, with large pebble stones and fine sand. There is a car park beside the beach and a small beach bar (open in high season only) which can get a bit crowded in August.

Nueva, Asturias & Cantabria- Shopping:

In the pretty village of Nueva you will find local shops and small supermarkets, bars with tables and chairs outside, and a few restaurants, so you dont have to go far if you want to eat out. There is a chemist in Nueva and the police station is in Llanes. There are also banks in Nueva, with a cashpoint. Local colourful street markets are held in the mornings in Nueva on Saturdays, in Posada on Fridays, in Llanes on Tuesdays and in Ribadesella on Wednesdays. A wide range of shops can be found in Ribadesella or Llanes 18km either way along the coast.

Nueva, Asturias & Cantabria- Fiestas:

Local fiestas are held most weekends during the summer months in many villages in the area. In Posada the fiestas are 25th July (Santiago's Day); in Villanueva the local fiesta is Santa Maria Magdalena on 22/23 July and Villahormes also on 22nd July; and in Nueva on 25/26 July celebrating San Juanon, La Blanca on 7/8 September and Santo Cristo on 13/14 September. When there is a fiesta, the shops are sometimes closed all day, or just in the afternoon.
