Las Rosas - Overview:

This small village on the north coast of La Gomera is situated halfway between Hermigua and Vallehermoso. The village sits above a rugged coastline and spreads inland through a beautiful valley which is superb for walking.

The nearby larger village of Vallehermoso is the main wine producing area in La Gomera and has a few shops selling local produce. You can walk inland over the hills to Vallehermoso - a more direct route than the winding coastal road.

Las Rosas - Out & About:

Agulo is one of the smallest villages of La Gomera and is divided into two separate, clealy different areas. The smaller lower part (where the actual village of Agulo is along with the picturesque suburb of Lepe) is situated on the inside of an impressive semicircular hollow. On rainy days water water cascades down the walls forming waterfalls. The view-point at Abrante affords a spectacular view of the crater with the neighbouring Canary island of Tenerife (with Mount Teide) in the background.

The town centre, founded in the 1620s, is formed by the neighbourhoods of El Charco, Las casas and La Montaneta, all good examples of the popular architecture of La Gomera. The upper part of Agulo, with the hamlets of Las Rosas, La Palmita, Meriga and Cruz de Tierno, nearby to the National Park, is economically based on the cultivation of orchards and vegetable gardens. This lush landscape benefits from a delightful climate. Its simple and friendly local people retain their proud heritage and make most of the authentic handicrafts to be found in La Gomera.
