Brena Alta - Overview:
Until the 17th century, Brena Alta (higher Brena) and Brena Baja (lower Brena) were known collectively as Brena. The area is located on the east-southeastern part of the island of La Palma, south of the capital Santa Cruz de La Palma and north of the La Palma Airport. It is linked with a main highway encircling every part of the island.

Brena Alta affords panoramic views of the neighbouring Canary Island of La Gomera to the southeast and the area features a 100 year old dracaena tree in the locality of San Isidro. The municipality was famous for its tobacco production, and its main industry today is still agriculture. The coastline and valley areas comprise mostly of farmland, while the lush mountainous areas are forested or grassy. Brena Alta has a fishing port, and there is an artificial beach in Bajamar.
