Puerto Calero - Overview:
Puerto Calero is one of Lanzarote's smaller resorts with a sophisticated atmosphere, luxury villas, high class hotels and prestigious marina. It is only a few kilometres away from the bustling resort of Puerto del Carmen, but a world away in style and atmosphere. The resort is named after the architect Jose Calero who pioneered this beautiful development that first opened in 1989. His dream was to create an exclusive retreat with a luxury marina, residential development and golf course. Every area of the marina has been carefully landscaped and it is a wonderful place to amble through. You can gaze at the fabulous yachts, while away a couple of hours in one of the water-side cafes or restaurants or simply watch the world go by while soaking up the luxuriant atmosphere. Surrounded by elegant villas and apartments with water-front restaurants and cafes, it's no surprise that yachtsmen from all over the world navigate their way to Puerto Calero to soak up the peaceful atmosphere.
Puerto Calero - Activities:
If you want to do more than just sit and watch the sophisticated world go by, then you can try your hand at a vast array of water-based activites. These include annual sailing regattas, catamaran trips, submarine excursions and a variety of exhilarating sport-fishing trips when you can try your skill at landing Shark, Marlin and Blue-fin Tuna in some of the best and most productive waters you can find.
If you prefer to be in the water rather than on it, then there are a couple of SCUBA diving schools operating out of the marina who offer instruction and guided dives, ranging from beginner through to advanced levels.
Puerto Calero - Beaches:
There is no direct beach access at Puerto Calero, however the famous white Papagayo beaches are just along the coastline, whilst neighbouring Puerto del Carmen has popular stretches of beach peppered with watersports.

True to Jose Calero's dream, nightlife in Puerto Calero is sophisticated and centres around its restaurants and cafes. Puerto Calero has a whole host of places to eat; whether you're looking for a simple coffee and a pastry or a five course evening meal, the marina has bistros, cafes and restaurants to suit most international tastes. For those seeking more excitement then nearby Puerto del Carmen has an abundance of bars, discos and entertainment to keep you amused well into the early hours.
Puerto Calero - Shopping:
The choice of shops in Puerto Calero is a little limited. There is a supermarket for everyday essentials along with some very nice boutiques and souvenir shops which are more up-market than in the other resorts of Lanzarote. A wider selection of shops can be found at nearby Puerto del Carmen, which offers everything from quaint gift shops to expensive designer boutiques.
Puerto Calero - Geography:
Puerto Calero lies on the south-west coast of Lanzarote, just 10km from Arrecife Airport and 20km from the island's capital. Its geographical location is ideal for a marina, providing natural shelter from Lanzarote's prevaling north-easterly winds. The neighbouring Canary island of Fuerteventura and the mountain range that forms the Punta Gorda coastline also give protection from the strong Atlantic waves.
