Finca Wapa, La Finca (FRO-1122)

This delightful cluster of small houses is set on a farm within pleasant gardens and occupies a splendid location in the lower part of El Golfo, near to the rocky coast of Las Puntas and the natural swimming pools of La Maceta.
All the accommodation is self-contained and comfortably furnished and there is a choice of two 1 bedroom detached bungalows, a self-contained studio in the main house and La Finca, a 2 bedroom detached bungalow. The friendly owners (who speak English) are conveniently on-hand as they live in the main house.
The finca is only a short drive away from Tigaday, the 'secret' capital of El Hierro, where you will find shops, banks and a selection of friendly bars and restaurants serving the local cuisine. (The official capital is Valverde but the Frontera valley is widely considered to be a more pleasant place to live and work than the capital).
Frontera is situated on the west coast of El Hierro, forming half the crater of the original volcano which fell into the sea some 50,000 years ago. This is a very fertile area and famous for its fresh produce with vines, banana, pineapple plantations and a profusion of fig trees. The local wine is one of the best in the Canaries and this is the only area on the islands where pineapples can be grown. For purchasing local produce there is a farmers' co-operative which runs an excellent supermarket only ten minutes' from the finca.
Finca Wapa offers comfortable accommodation in a rural location. It is an excellent base from which to explore the rare flora and fauna on the Canaries' tiniest island, and lose yourself amid its many areas of undisturbed rural beauty. A little further away in the south of the island is La Restinga, renowned for its internationally acclaimed SCUBA diving facilities and outstanding marine reserve - a naturalist's paradise.
Finca Wapa is highly recommended for those seeking a thoroughly relaxing holiday. A hire car is essential as the finca is not within immediate reach of local facilities or public transport.

Layout

The interior accommodation of La Finca comprises two double bedrooms, one with large double bed (which can be split into two) and the other with a standard double bed, shower room, and lounge/kitchen/diner a table and six chairs, 3-ring gas hob and oven, toaster, fridge and coffee maker. The lounge area has a 3-seater sofa, two chairs, television (no English channels), lamp and small table. A highchair for small children and a cot are available on request. Outside there is a private terrace area with table and chairs - ideal for dining al fresco or simply relaxing after a day's exploring.
