The splendid Hotel Lobios and Thermal Spa opened its doors in 2002. Located in the beautiful Galician landscape at Riocaldo, the hotel is highly recommended for those seeking the ultimate in rest and relaxation.
The Hotel Lobios is conveniently located for natural sightseeing as it is just a few kilometres from the natural and ecological Natural Park of Baixo-Limia Xures; 70km from the province capital, Ourense; 6km from Portugal (by the Portela do Homem border) and very near to Geres with the Portuguese Nacional Park of Peneda-Gerês and the historic Portuguese villages of Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima and Arcos de Valdevez.
The Thermal Spa treatments follow the guidelines of sister hotels Laias Caldaria and Arnoia Caldaria Thermal Spas (also available in our programme). The thermal waters are bicarbonate soda, chlorate, low mineralised and hyper-thermal and they can be administrated either by topical application or by ingestion. The Riocaldo thermal water is specially recommended for digestive, respiratory, rheumatic and dermatological problems and can be used for diuretic treatments, aesthetics and anti-stress treatments.
The Termarium has been specially designed for this thermal spa and aims to reproduce the techniques developed by the ancient Romans, with dry and wet heat rooms, hydro-massage, aromatic showers, essential oil baths, toning massages, Jacuzzi, a relaxing thermal water swimming pool and thermo couches - all combined with a resident medical consultant. Specialist attention includes anti-stress programmes, vascular problems, rheumatic problems and post trauma recovery. Different facial and corporal treatments are available as well as body toning treatments. There is also an indoor thermal water swimming pool with swan neck and underwater jets. From here you can also enjoy a wonderful view the surrounding Xures mountain landscape. The lower floor of the spa there has a quiet and relaxing ambience for the application of mass therapy and aesthetics techniques. There is also a gymnasium for physiotherapy exercises and physical exercise with facilities such as bicycles, mechanic belts, etc.
This is a four star hotel with 85 bedrooms: 20 king-size bedrooms, 6 suites, 6 family rooms, 49 double bedrooms and 4 rooms specifically adapted for physically disabled guests. Other facilities at the hotel include a hairdresser, banqueting facilities, reading room, games room, an original Bar Ingles and a coffee bar with a pleasant terrace affording views to the magnificent landscape of the Xures mountains.
In the a la carte Restaurant Via Nova, guests can enjoy exotic dishes such as crocodile, zebra or kangaroo along with other traditional Galician fayre such as fish or the famous Galician veal. The house specialities are 'Crocodile in Litchis sauce and Figs' and 'Kangaroo au Cafe de Paris'. More familiar dishes include Flounder with cherry tomatoes, Cigalas Rolls (vegetables over a foam of Tetilla cheese and Cigalas over Spinach leaves and Purple Sauce. The dessert speciality is mushrooms. The restaurant also offers dishes for the diet conscious such as a delicious Tropical Salad with Peanut Oil and Apple Vinegar or Meridional Ratatouille with Flounder Filet a La Plancha. Vegetarian dishes are also available, made to order.
You may wish to try a whole host of outdoor adventure activities and they are available through the hotel reception. These include organised events such as abseiling, hillwalking, mountain climbing, trekking, grottos, pot-holing and caving, mountain-biking, cycling, motorbiking, quad biking, jeeps, rafting, expeditions, canoeing, parapenting, delta wing and ballooning. Other activities include fishing, hunting, archery and crossbow shooting. Perhaps a less adventurous afternnoon could be spent visiting local places of interest such as the Roman camps Aquis Querquennis, museums and the old roman road.
