Alicante, Costa Blanca - Overview:

Renowned for its miles of sandy beaches, Alicante is a starting point for thousands of tourists every year. The capital of the province of Alicante in the south of Valencia, Alicante is primarily a historic Mediterranean port and one of the fastest-growing cities in Spain. Its economy is heavily reliant on tourism (with its vast array of beach resorts along the Costa Blanca), wine production, services and administration.

The city has regular ferry services to the Balearic Islands, and an international airport is nearby. During the summer Alicante Airport is the starting point for many Costa Blanca tourists, while out of season tourists (and residents) come to enjoy a little winter sunshine along the coast in places like Benidorm, Calpe and Denia.

The Costa Blanca lies on the south-east coast of Spain. To the south is the Costa Almeria and to the north the Costa Dorada. Alicante has about 340,000 inhabitants and lies adjacent to the Mediterranean sea.
